Thoughts of a middle aged man…..30 October 2012

The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me. It doesn’t matter how many times you see it in television, how many times you read about it in the papers, everyone seems to think it will never happen to them. What is it, a car accident.

Tonight on the way home a woman was driving her Mercedes in front of me, now it was by no means a new Mercedes, but a Mercedes nonetheless, and in the back were two relatively young children. One of these children, a little girl, was climbing all over the back seat, obviously not restrained, while Mum drove on either completely oblivious, although I don’t know how, or just too damn complacent. The thought of what could have happened to this child if this mother had need to slam on her brakes is too horrible to contemplate, and whose fault would it have been, everybody elses.

What I see on a daily bass defies comprehension, mothers crossing busy roads taking their children to school, there is a perfectly adequate pedestrian crossing only meters away but do they use it, all to often the answer is no. It is not just mothers but the elderly as well, shuffling across a busy road, sometimes in their gopher, it makes you wonder why we have pedestrian crossings in the first place.

Not that the footpath is necessarily a safe place when there is a gopher around, those things can go way too fast, but anyone can drive one, and the arrogance of some of our senior citizens. It does not surprise me when I hear that someone has been hit by a car as happens all too often.

That is my rant for the night. Thank you for reading.
