Thoughts of a middle aged man…..8 December 2012

Today was not exactly the day of rest I was after. We were up early for a Saturday for a day of Xmas shopping, but not before we picked up Brian’s mother. Perhaps tomorrow I can have a lay in.

We did get a lot done, we do not have much left to buy, one more week and we will be done. The grandchildren are basically finished, it is my children and our two mothers who are proving to be difficult.

Brian’s mother wanted to have a look in Harvey Norman and whilst there my sugar got a bit low and I was getting jittery. A lovely young man who worked there heard our conversation and as there was nowhere I could buy a drink he offered to get me one from the staff room. His kindness was greatly appreciated.

Just a few minutes later another staff member walked past and lo and behold it was David, someone I worked with years ago and in fact shared a house with. We had a good chat, it was great to catch up, it must have been at least 8 years since I last saw him.

Nothing much on television tonight so as Brian is a James Bond fan that is what we have been watching, Dr No and From Russia With Love. The acting is so corny now, no Oscars there, and everything is so dated, makes them quite comical really.

I can’t sign off tonight without voicing my opinion about the tragic suicide of Jacintha Saldanha in London, the nurse at the centre of the 2Day FM stunt. It is tragic to think she felt so humiliated and ashamed that she thought this was her only way out. As for the two DJs responsible, they have to live with this for the rest of their lives. Granted they could not have foreseen the tragedy that was to unfold, and I do not believe they should be prosecuted, but both they and the idiot executives who gave their blessing to this stunt should be sacked.

What gives anyone the right to invade the privacy of anyone, royal or not, in particular when that person is ill in hospital. If it had been their partner how would they feel if their medical condition was discussed with strangers, particularly in so public a forum. Absolutely shameful. I hope the media takes heed.

That is my opinion. Goodnight and thank you for reading.
