So I get to work this morning and I get asked, “What did you get for Valentine’s Day?”. My answer, “Have you met Brian, he does not have a romantic bone in his body”, but aside from that Brian and I are getting a bit old for all the commercial hoo ha surrounding Valentine’ Day. Brian did try to make us a nice dinner though. We may not be all doe eyed anymore but he is still my Valentine, makes you want to throw up doesn’t it 🙂
When we first got together I used to try with the mushy stuff but Brian is really not into it, even birthday and Xmas cards are not his thing. His family as a whole are not a mushy family, no deep and meaningful Hallmark cards no matter the occasion, maybe a funny one if you are lucky. The consequence of all this, I still try to buy him a birthday card, although it will always be a funny one, as for Xmas cards, yeah I usually buy one of them as well, I don’t mind a bit of mush.
There was one little thing Brian did in the early days of our relationship, he was quite excited and it was really very cute, he made our bed in the colours of the Adelaide Crows. It is one of those silly little gestures that I will never forget.
Another time we went to Melbourne for the weekend and Brian surprised me with tickets to the MCG to watch the Adelaide Crows play Hawthorn, the Crows lost. The most memorable thing from that day, watching Brian sip champagne from a pink plastic champagne flute amongst the beer swilling Victorians.
I can remember when I was married and it was always expected that you would make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day, I think it is more a chick thing than for the guys. You know what they say, “A happy wife, a happy life”. Where did I go wrong, oh I remember 🙂
Time for this little Valentine to hit the sack. Thank you for reading.
