Thoughts of a middle aged man…..19 February 2013

You know the old saying, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”, well that is what it is like being a strata manager sometimes. I had an AGM with a lovely group of people tonight, a lovely group that do not want to spend any money. I know times are tough but it is not going to get any easier.

For the last couple of years this group has been spending more than they are paying in, the result of all that spending, a depleted bank account which meant I had to propose a steep increase in fees. After a lot of toing and froing the decision was not to increase the fees as much as I proposed, and not to undertake any maintenance of the common property, and all owners are to maintain their own lots. I sense the exact same discussion at the next AGM.

Tomorrow is my day off but I still have an early start as my car is going in for a service, fingers crossed they do not find any nasty little surprises, as nasty little surprises can tend to be expensive. Lots to do around home tomorrow as well, I think Brian and I will have a busy day with no time to catch up on the television shows we have recorded.

Is it just me or is everyone else getting just a little tired of the constant changes to Facebook. I can fully understand they need to modify their product, and not all change is bad just some of it, but it is really annoying when you get used to one thing and all of a sudden it changes with no warning. You have the market Facebook so why not announce your changes before springing them on us.

I wrote about this the other week, but I am still stunned by the number of scooters and motor bikes using the bicycle lane on Port Road, I assume it is happening on our other main roads as well, just a matter of time before there is a very serious accident.

Morning radio is also getting on my goat at the moment, there is not a decent station to listen to and the inane comments and stunts of the “hosts” is getting ridiculous. While I do enjoy some of the music it would be nice to know who the artists are, gone are the good old days when each song was announced.

That is my gripe for today. Goodnight and thank you for reading.
