Thoughts of a middle aged man…..26 February 2013

Watching other people I never cease to be amazed, in particular mothers and their children, grandmothers and their grandchildren, and elderly people in general. Why these groups of people you ask, because they are the ones that astound me by jay walking across busy roads at peak hour, that’s right, mothers and grandmothers rushing children over busy roads, old people shuffling across busy roads either on foot or in their gophers, just metres from a perfectly functional pedestrian crossing.

Why do these people persist in jay walking, if there is an accident it would be the fault of the motorist, how do you think that motorist would feel, they would be the innocent victim. Mothers and grandmothers in particular what sort of example are you setting these children, wake up to yourselves.

You may think I am being sexist here, or picking on the elderly, but the truth is that I rarely see fathers walking their children dangerously across a busy road. Granted there are probably many fewer fathers than mothers taking their children to school, but those I do see are invariably doing the right thing.

I challenge you, on any day of the week, near any school, watch and you will see I am right. I am not saying I am perfect, and I have been known to jay walk, but not within close proximity of a pedestrian crossing, and not with my children when they were young, and not with my grandchildren in tow, that is just stupid.

That is my soap box for the day. Thank you for reading.
