Thoughts of a middle aged man…..3 August 2013

What an interesting couple of days it has been since I was last on, interesting to me anyway. Yesterday I received a call on my mobile and a woman’s voice said she was calling from Simplicity Funerals about my father, you think that didn’t make me sit up and take notice. It turned out that Dad has been to arrange his funeral and she had mislaid his phone number but she was able to find mine alright which he must have given to her. They are not called Simplicity Funerals for nothing.

Today Brian and I went shopping as I needed a suit for my god-daughter’s wedding next weekend, I found something quite nice but not overly expensive. We have another wedding later in the year, on my birthday in November in fact, so the suit will get worn at least twice.

My youngest granddaughter Calais is 2 next weekend so we bought her birthday present as well, a cute little dress for the summer that I hope will fit. We even started the Xmas shopping, with our lot we need to start early.

Later as we had some time to kill we had a coffee and cake in Gloria Jean‘s at the Elizabeth Shopping Centre, we won’t bother again. The coffee was bitter and the girl who served me was very quick to point out they would be closing in 20 minutes, and then proceeded to put up the chairs in spite of the customers that continued into the shop. Someone should tell them they are in the hospitality industry.

Later in the day we went to see Mum in the nursing home, I found her in the television room with her friend John. Mum had no idea who I was, dementia is really getting the better of her, then she asked John if he had met her brother and told me she has been speaking to our mother, she must have been to a séance :). Any way I took her back to her room for a chat and I think it twigged who I was but you can’t be sure as she had a photo album on her side table of my nephew and his children but had no idea who they were.

Tonight we had dinner at Kane and Kristin‘s, it was a nice meal and it is always good to see my children and grandchildren. There was an added bonus when we arrived as another of my son’s Blake was also visiting with his daughter Jade who we do not get to see all that often.

What a weekend of upsets in the AFL, fingers crossed there is another upset tomorrow when the Adelaide Crows trounce Port Power.

Time for me to go to bed, we got caught in the rain today and now I have a sore throat and a blocked nose, feeling sorry for myself. Goodnight and thank you for reading.
