Thoughts of a middle aged man…..23 May 2013

Like most people I am sickened by the callous murder of a soldier in London by what are believed to be Islamic Extremists. I know there are good and bad in every race, I know there are good and bad in every religion, it is just unfortunate that the Extremists and their cowardly actions get all the press coverage. Wouldn’t it be nice to see a good news story about Islam.

These events only re-emphasise for me just how lucky we are here in Australia. I am not naive enough to think it could never happen here, I daresay our luck will run out one day. I am not forgetting what happened in Bali, I just hope that terrorism of any kind will not find its way to our shores. The slaughter of innocents cannot be tolerated.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Hazel Hawke, the ex-wife of former Prime Minster Bob Hawke, the former First Lady of Australia. In my opinion Mrs Hawke was the most loved and hardest working of our first ladies, she was certainly no accessory to Bob Hawke.

Today is also a dark day for the Australian motor vehicle industry with Ford announcing the closure of its manufacturing plant. Let us hope that General Motors Holden do not go the same way, it is unfortunate that it is cheaper for Australians to buy imports, but you cannot blame people in these tough economic times.

I had quite a good day at the office today, I achieved a lot but for some reason my mood darkened on the way home and I cannot explain why. I am not being horrible, just sullen, a horrible feeling. If I cannot understand this feeling how can I expect anyone else to. Perhaps a good nights sleep will help, it can’t hurt.

Thoughts of a middle aged man…..24 March 2013

That day certainly went to crap in a big hurry, I’m looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. I did have a bit of a sleep this afternoon, ironed enough shirts for us both for the week, and made a nice dinner, an overall uninspiring day though.

This morning we headed to the nursing home to see Mum, one of my Aunts and two Uncles were there, along with my sister Carolyn and another sibling I do my best to forget. Mum seemed a bit awestruck by so many visitors at once, she has lost a lot of weight and is looking very frail.

Carolyn told me Mum has just been diagnosed this morning with another urinary tract infection so I suppose she will be out to it again for a couple of weeks once they start pumping her full of antibiotics to treat it. That is usually what happens so there will not be much point in visiting her again in the short-term.

From the nursing home we went to see Ryan and Melissa who have just bought another car after one of the others was stolen. It looks like they got a good buy, Calais certainly seemed to think so, she would not even get out of it to give Papa and Uncle Brian a cuddle.

A short week this week as we have Easter next weekend, but it will be a busy one. Time for bed, goodnight and thank you for reading.
