Damn chilly in Adelaide today, winter really is here, even with the gas heater on I am having trouble staying warm.
After a lazy morning, we got up at 10.00, this morning we tried out our new Nutri Bullet for the first time. We decided to start with the first recipe and work our way through, this morning was kale, pineapple, pear , apple and banana, an interesting mix, pretty green. Iw ouldn’t say I disliked it, but I wouldn’t say I liked it either, the texture was interesting. We are not going to give up on it though as it did fill us up, tomorrow’s concoction is berries.
Breakfast finished it was off to buy a birthday present for 7-year-old Jayden, Kane told me he wanted a real cricket set, nothing plastic. We searched the length and breadth of the Elizabeth Shopping Centre but no cricket set to be found, so we continued on our way to Sportspower, again nothing. In desperation I decided we would buy everything separately, Jayden would not care as long as the end product was what he wanted. The guy that served us said he would check out the back as there were no wickets on display and to my pleasant surprise he happened to find a lonely cricket set that had been forgotten about, I was happy, I had what Jayden wanted.
Next stop was to pick up Jade as we have not seen her for a while and I thought it would be nice if we picked her up so she could see her cousin for his birthday. Jade is gorgeous, she chatted all the way and by the time we arrived at Kane’s Jade had us up to date with all the goings on in her life.
To my disappointment Jayden did not seem all that excited about his cricket set, but I suppose a cricket set cannot really compete with the present he got from his parents, an X-box. We stayed at Kane’s for an hour or so and then headed home, we did not see the kids once, the entire visit they played on the X-box. It is not often I don’t get a cuddle but today was one of those days.
Kane on the other hand is very excited as he picked up his new car yesterday. Don’t ask me what it is, it is a 4 wheel drive of some description, all I know is that my son is very, very happy, and that is all that matters, he works hard and he deserves it.
I have just watched Port Power get beaten by the Sydney Swans in the AFL, and Brian is having a siesta. It is nearly time to wake him up as we are out for dinner tonight. Vietnamese cuisine with friends from my days at Wattyl.
I am absolutely knackered tonight, it is amazing how tiring it can be walking around the Elizabeth Shopping Centre with a 1o year old girl spending her birthday money. I hate shopping as Brian will happily confirm so there are not too many people I would make this sacrifice for, only my children and of course my grandchildren.
My beautiful granddaughter Caitlin turns 11 this week and as grandfathers we really have no idea what to buy an 11-year-old girl so we thought it safer to just take her shopping. According to Kane she was very excited to be able to go shopping with us and buy what she wanted.
Our original intention was that we would both take her however Brian’s back is getting worse and he was just not able to walk around. By the time I got home I was shattered and I slept on the lounge for a couple of hours, but back to our shopping spree.
Caitlin is what I call a typical female, she loves to shop so we went into every store that could possibly sell anything she might like, some of them we visited twice. In the end she came away with a pair of earrings, a pair of boots with a small heel and diamantes around the ankle, and of all things she wanted some pyjamas. In all she was a very happy little girl.
After shopping we went to the food court for lunch and then I bought Kane’s birthday present as he turns 35 on Monday, crap I feel old. What did Papa get, just lunch and a much lighter bank balance.:)
I was pretty disgusted by one young woman I saw today who was shopping with two young children. As soon as she was outside of the shopping centre she lit her pipe and choofed away like there was no tomorrow. A fine example she is setting her children, her parents must be very proud.
Today is the eighth birthday of my beautiful granddaughter Alyssa. Alyssa came into this world at the most ungodly hour and then proceeded to scream for the next six months, nothing would pacify her, and then almost overnight she stopped screaming.
Yesterday we took her shopping for her birthday present, it is the first time we have done this and she had a ball, she bought a new dress and a pair of silver sequined sneakers. We went into every shoe shop at the Elizabeth Shopping Centre only to go back and buy the very first pair she saw, and the look on her face when I told her she still had money left to spend. What she does not know is that I bought her Xmas present at the same time, I had Brian distract her while I made a quick purchase. Three Xmas presents down and five to go, for the grandchildren anyway.
Last night we went out for dinner with good friends, and regular dinner partners, Jo and Kate. We went to a local Chinese restaurant and then back to our place for coffee. As always we had a good time with these two girls, even if the night did not finish quite as we had planned. Looking forward to the next time.
Brian and I have spent most of the weekend house hunting. We found a perfect yard, complete with aviaries, for my racing pigeons, but the house itself was a bit ordinary, then we found the perfect house but no room for my racing pigeons. The right combination is out there, it is just a matter of time.
I am a bit annoyed tonight, every time I get interested in something on television, someone who shall remain nameless, changes the channel. I got interested in the Chopper Read interview, changes channel, I got interested in Escape to the Country, changes the channel. I am really looking forward to a bigger house, with two living rooms and two televisions.
The next few weeks, and weekends, are going to be extremely busy. We have dinners, a wedding, birthdays, including mine, not to mention Xmas shopping, and then of course Xmas itself. I am really hanging out for my Xmas break. Thank you for reading, and have a great week.
